Just like your home, your car needs freshening up from time to time. With Spring (albeit tentatively) just starting to take root, there’s no better time to give your pride and joy a bit of spit and polish than now.
Spring cleaning your BMW, might seem like a daunting task, but if you follow this handy guide you should experience a hassle free way to make your beloved motor shine.
Starting by cleaning the interior of your BMW allows you to take care of the finer details of your car first up, after all what good is sparkling bodywork when the interior is still looking tired and grubby? It also helps save time having to wait for you car to dry before you go using electronic equipment like a vacuum, water and electricity are not good bedfellows!
Use a fine brush first to clean the small nooks and crannies of your car such as seat creases, dashboard grooves and air vents, then; use a stiffer brush for the mats and carpets as some of the grime here can be a little tougher to remove. If needs be, you can use a carpet shampoo to really make your interior feel like new. If you have leather seats, then a leather cleaner can be one way to revitalise the look and feel of your interior (just be sure to follow the instructions on the bottle).
The best way to achieve the gleaming finish that you want for your BMW is to give it some elbow grease and wash it by hand. It’s by far the gentlest and most professional looking clean you can get. Use a proper car wash solution where possible for best results. Finish off the bodywork with a chamois leather for that new car feel.
Making sure that you pay attention to the finer details of your car is the ideal way to get your BMW looking and feeling like new. When it comes to the windows use a mild cleaner and a microfibre cloth for best results. Standard glass cleaners can be too harsh on windscreens. Using a microfibre cloth will help avoid unsightly streaks across the glass.
When it comes to cleaning the headlights, make sure you take your time. Rushing can result in a streaky finish which can mar the overall effect of your hard work cleaning. You can purchase a proper headlight cleaner or if you fancy a little more of a DIY approach you can use toothpaste to remove grime and polish your lights up to a shiny finish.
Having sparkling bodywork is going to look odd next to grubby alloys, giving them a through hand wash to remove road dirt and grease will complete the overall finish of your spring clean. Make sure you don’t neglect your tyres for that final touch.
So, having completed both the interior and exterior cleaning, now would be a great time to pay some attention to the inner workings of your BMW. Check your oil and your washer fluid to help maintain your vehicle and keep it in good working order.
