As lockdown 3.0 came into effect in England, on the 4th January 2021, many non-essential businesses were told to close their doors once again. This time, car service companies such as garages were allowed to remain open for business to carry out essential repairs and services, which means you should be able to get your car booked in for a service or MOT.
You may notice many garages are busier than normal as they are still working their way through a backlog of vehicles that couldn’t be worked on due to the previous lockdown and also due to the ruling where they were unable to offer MOT for the first 6 months of the initial lockdown. So it’s definitely worth contacting your local garage well in advance and get your vehicle booked in for a service or MOT.
Similar to many other businesses, Autotechnik is also operating under covid-safety rules and following the government guidelines. We currently offer contactless virtual appointments and our dedicated team are available for video calls on Zoom, Teams, Skype, Facetime, or WhatsApp Video.
Our car showroom will be closed during the lockdown but you can take a look at our full list of cars here.
The lockdown message across England is to stay at home unless your journey is essential. However, if your MOT is due or there is a serious problem with your car, then it is suggested that you book in with your local garage in Lutterworth to ensure your car is safe to drive. If you are using your car for essential journeys such as food shopping or getting to work, it is important that your car is in full working order.
For minor issues, you can use your judgement to decide whether it is considered as ‘essential’ or if it can wait until the restrictions have been lifted. If you are unsure, there is plenty of advice on the basic checks you can do yourself on the government website.
The simplest answer to that question is, no. As you are legally required to have a valid MOT for your car, you must ensure your vehicle is booked into a garage before it expires. As there is no MOT extension for this lockdown, there will be no excuse for not having an MOT for your car if you are driving it around.
Note: No MOT can result in penalty points and a fine.
All garages will be operating in a covid-secure environment, so you don’t have to worry about the safety measures for customers or staff.
If you would like to book an MOT or if you are experiencing any serious issues with your car, our team is here to help. Contact us on 01455 698481 or send us a message here.
